What
Is A Traditional Turkish Hen Night?
(Kina Gecesi)
Traditionally in Turkey, the Henna Night or rather ‘Kina
Gecesi’, pronounced (Kuh Nah Ge Je See), is a very
beautiful experience that will set your hen night apart
from the rest. For Turkish people it normally takes place
the night before the wedding. The commonality with the
English style hen night is that the bride’s friends and
female family members gather to eat, dance, and sing.
The bride and friends can choose whether or not to have
Henna dye is put in their hands. The stain of the dye is
meant to show everyone afterwards that there is a new
bride or that someone has recently been to a close friends
or family’s wedding. The dye stays in the hand for about
a week and can sometimes last longer depending on skin
type. In old times there was a song that use to be sung
called the ‘Yuksek Tepelere’ which marks the bride
leaving the family home to embark on a new life...
Henna nights are very popular in cities now. There are
many alternatives for them such as in Turkish Baths or
Spas.
The Trinity Team can arrange a venue for the traditional
‘Kina Gecesi’ or a different styled Hen night if you
so wish.
By the way, the best bit is that in Turkey all your
friends and family are meant to pin gold on you to wish
you good luck in your future life...
(In some cases brides sell some of their gold afterwards
to re-coup their costs of the hen night).
